When Shit Happens, what do you do?

Entrepreneurial leaders do not have a mindset that adapts to failure. When things go wrong, entrepreneurs will more often call them “glitches, mistakes, bungles, setbacks” or close to my own heart “shit happens”– but not failing….certainly not failing!

They don’t even see their decisions as hard of difficult in most cases….okay, it might not be smooth sailing ahead, but generally that’s not enough to put them off. They view those obstacles as challenges to be met head on, not road blocks signalling a u-turn is mandatory!

Nobody can get through life without having setbacks in one form or another, but entrepreneurs learn to recognise the value of intuition….that gut feel, and although not strictly logical, intuition does draw from your experience, knowledge and analysis and is always ticking away in the background. And hey…if your gonna make mistakes, then make them quickly, learn what you need to learn and move on.

Let’s say you’re an entrepreneur with a small business, planning on approaching a bank for a loan. You know that you must deliver a well thought out and concise Business Plan, with all the projections for the use of the capital you’ll borrow and the repayment of the same, that’s a given….right? But what about the “presentation”?

I don’t mean the presentation of the Business Plan. What I’m talking about is YOU! Do you maintain the appearance of leadership? Do you project the confident appearance of a successful entrepreneur?

Presenting yourself as a confident entrepreneur, filled with the excitement of your business idea, and a strong leader of your team (whether it’s 1 or 10 employees) is what will make you a winner and get you over the line when delivering your pitch. After all, you are your business to that banker so you’d better sell yourself well.

So ask yourself, how are you presenting yourself to the world….does the behaviour and image match the results you want to achieve?

Me personally, I’m not quite where I need to be….yet…but I’m workin on it!

How about you?….what changes can you make today to put you in line with the outcome your want. Share your thoughts, feelings and opinions below.

I enjoyed this article because it is so true, especially for those of us just starting out. It is easy to get discouraged, but I have to remember to keep moving forward and every mistake or roadblock is a learning experience.
