What do you do when you’re issued a challenge? Do you rise to the occasion and meet it head on, or do you offer excuses to remain in the safety and comfort of what you know.
Well it seems I’ve been issued a challenge.
This week Melanie Kissell from Solo Mompreneur tagged me in a post challenging a number of bloggers to reveal 7 things that you might not know about them.
Now committing to doing this post isn’t going to change my life direction, and its outcomes won’t cause me hardship or pain. It’s a blog post after all. But often when we’re issued a challenge our immediate reaction is to back away.
It’s another thing to do, time we don’t have, we’re uncertain of the outcome. Excuses are always easy to find.
But have you stopped to ask yourself what the flipside of that is.
What if you said yes? What if you made the time?
You don’t know what opportunities, interesting people, or new information you are shutting out by making excuses, being on auto-no-mode, or issuing long standing maybes.
Habitual excusing self talk will prevent you from growing. How is that showing up in other areas of your life? More important areas. Things that do have an impact on your future.
Often how you do one thing, is how you do everything!
So here’s my challenge for you. You can do the 7 things challenge if you wish, I’m not going to put the hard word on you. But I will challenge you in a different way.
The next time you’re asked to do something, I want you to pay attention to your immediate reaction and behaviour. Are you saying “no” for a really good reason, or saying “no” because it’s just what you’ve always done?
So here you go, here’s 7 things you might not know about me.
- I’m a little compulsive over how my shopping is organised in my trolley, and have to load things on the register conveyor belt in a certain order. Yeah I know…anal.
- In my youth on a trip to Amsterdam I partied a little too hard and spent the night passed out in the toilet….TMI?? sorry. Fortunately I was not relieved of my passport or any other of my belongings… someone up there was looking after me.
- I used to own a donkey. Random but true!
- My first car was a 1969 Torana (an aussie classic) which I did all the body work on and totally re-sprayed a lovely shade of burgundy.
- Oh Yeah, I’ve also ridden an elephant.
- I don’t do crustaceans, prawns, crab, lobster, etc. Don’t touch ‘em, cook ‘em or eat ‘em. Ewwww.
- Random sports fact. I love the US NHL, wonder if my avatar might give you a clue who my team is?
Well there you have it, some random facts. I didn’t include some of the ones my daughter suggested, I don’t want you thinking I’m completely mad! there’s enough of those rumours
Feeling up the challenge yourself?
You can blog, post on facebook or just simply drop 7 random things in the comments below. If you’re posting elsewhere, make sure to leave me a link in the comments so I can stop by and check it out. Also make sure you connect with Melanie on her blog, you won’t be sorry you did.
Thanks Mel for providing the inspiration for this post, and introducing me to some other fabulous bloggers through the challenge

Congrats and good for you for taking up the challenge.
Regarding your awesome sharing…
-I’ve been compared to an elephant before (I’ll let you guess how
)
-Love the party story
-Whoa, whoa, whoa… HOCKEY *IS* CANADA.
As for me…
I recently revealed the most personal, raw, real post I’ve ever written on my blog, and instead of getting 40-50 comments like my other posts, it got me many personal phone calls and emails — lol — too hot to handle? http://ryzeonline.com/painful-withdrawal-from-a-different-kind-of-addiction
Hey Jason
“I’ve been compared to an elephant before (I’ll let you guess how
)” ooookaaay then, don’t think I’ll go there.
On the hockey…well I’m not going to argue but its fairly slim pickins at the competitive end of the league for Canadian teams…jus sayin’ besides the fact I just can’t resist a jersey accent
Will drop by and check that post out….sounds like you touched a few nerves.
Have a good one Jason, and thanks for stopping by.
Hahah… well yes, *that* way too — but I meant that elephants are immensely powerful but with a gentle heart focused on peace.
Re: hockey… Harsh, Jackie. Harsh. I suppose holding on to Gretzky + Lindros is no saving grace eh… Well whatevz, we rock Olympics
As for the post, it made more than one person cry.

lol…trust me to get the wrong end of the stick…figuratively of course. *slaps self while blushing*
I’ll pay that on the olympics..you sure did rock the world stage. Would have loved to have been there to see it. Canada is on my hot list of places to visit.
Have a great one Jason, thanks for stopping by.
Oh don’tcha worry, I sling double- (and triple-) meanings around like they’re going out of style.
I knew where I was guiding with my words and I see sex … everywhere.
Yeeeahhhh, T-Dot Represent! Thank you

Jackie, you and this post are nothing short of splendiferous!
You’ve not only stepped up to the challenge, you’ve turned the “7 Random Facts Challenge” into a priceless personal development lesson.
I, for one, commend and applaud you!
Love this …
” … being on auto-no-mode, or issuing long standing maybes.”
Boy, I bet more than two people will feel guilty and a tad bit like they just got their hand caught in the cookie jar when they come to that line. But it’s SO true and your point is very well taken.
It’s easier to take the path of least resistance, isn’t it? Just like the flow of electricity along an electrical current or water as it travels through a tributary.
Well, get a load of this! …
“My first car was a 1969 Torana (an aussie classic) which I did all the body work on and totally re-sprayed a lovely shade of burgundy.”
Looks like I’m not the ONLY one who should be deemed “The Blog Mechanic”. LOL!
Wonderful message you’ve put in the spotlight and I REALLY enjoyed reading all your fun facts. Thank you for being such a good sport and a good friend.
(Oh, boy. Looks like Jason Fonceca has a juicy, hot, and spicy story to share!)

Thanks Mel, glad you enjoyed it.
Yep I can hold my own in the auto dept. Thought you’d have something to say about that
I’ve always been “into” cars, and restoring cars is my husbands hobby. He’s recently finished a 74 MGB…oh and don’t I feel like I’ve lived and breathed that restoration with him…lol.
Thanks again for issuing the challenge Mel, it’s a little deviation from the norm here, but an enjoyable one.
High-praise, Melanie, and I dig Jackie’s vibe and it seems you do too
As for this:
“(Oh, boy. Looks like Jason Fonceca has a juicy, hot, and spicy story to share!)”
Babe, I *AM* a juicy, hot, spicy story. Believe it.
Stay sexy

He has a way about him, doesn’t he Mel
As I mentioned to Kesha, I’ve only come across his work recently, it pulls you right in and that’s what good writing is all about.
Thank ya you two
If I wasn’t so unstoppably confident (read: a cocky asshole
)… I’d blush.
Instead I’m here to make y’all blush.
(Do you like red cheeks
? )

I agree with Mel about your turning this exercise into a personal development lesson.
Where were you when you rode an elephant? Sounds interesting!
And, yes, Jason is next on the list to read!!

So jazzed you made it over here, Kesha, and I have a hunch you’ll be back again soon!
I want to know where Jackie rode that elephant, too. At the circus? On a safari? At the zoo?? Curious minds want to know. *Grin*
Now over to read your random facts.
Melanie Kissell recently posted..Toilet Paper and Toothpicks
Thanks for introducing Kesha to me Mel, looking forward to getting to know her better.
As for that elephant…now why is it that you would think of the circus first I wonder???…are you trying to tell me something
Safari would have been nice, as for the zoo, I think they might have something to say about a strange woman jumping on an elephant. lol
No this was on a trip to Thailand. Gotta savor every experience life offers up thats what I say.
Curiosity is a very good thing.
A trip to Thailand sounds exotic, Jackie! And you’re right … “Gotta savor every experience life offers up.”

Melanie Kissell recently posted..Toilet Paper and Toothpicks
I like being on lists, especially when they’re flattering
Thank ya!
Jason “J-Ryze” Fonceca recently posted..Ryze’s Best Of Success – March 2012
Hey Kesha
I was actually in Thailand when I took a ride, fortunately I did have a local at the helm, I wouldn’t have known how to make jumbo go or stop otherwise
I’ve only recently found Jason, I think you’ll enjoy his work, he takes no prisoners.
Have a great day
That was fun Jackie! I don’t know if my list would be anywhere nearly as exciting. I do the same thing at the grocery store that you do. I unload my cart in the order that I want my bags packed. Eggs and bread are always the last things that I put on the conveyor belt. Thanks for sharing. I won’t accept the challenge to come up with my list of seven right now but maybe some day soon. I’m tackling my to-do list now it’s the start of the weekend!
Sherryl Perry recently posted..The Rise of the Cyber Cold War
Wonder what that says about us Sherryl. Too funny…eggs and bread are my last items too. lol
My daughter rolls her eyes when she tries to help me and I tell her she’s handing me things in the wrong order, I just can’t help myself.
Good luck getting a jump on that to-do list, seems I’m on the same track answering comments on a Sunday evening.
Have a great productive week Sherryl, thanks for dropping in and letting me know I’m not alone in my shopping behaviors
Sherryl and Jackie,
I think we’re on to something here. I do the same “grocery store cart” thing.
The support group will be forming soon. LOL!

Melanie Kissell recently posted..Toilet Paper and Toothpicks
OMG…a support group…its a movement…quick someone start a blog!
LOL!!
Now you’re talkin’ — Quick, somebody … start a blog!
What should the blog be named?
“Grocery Cart Packing and Stacking for the Neurotic”? LOL!
Melanie Kissell recently posted..Toilet Paper and Toothpicks
Haha love your 7 random things….particularly the “69 Torrie” ….aaah yes, my first car was a 72 LJ Torana 4 speed manual …and I used to drag the boys off on dirt roads ..always loved a challenge!!!
So..me being the lover of all challenges I guess I feel the need to spill.
Here are another 6 yourself and many others may not know about me:
. Travelled Australia on a working holiday at age 21 for 12 months in my Torrie (had to stop to fill it with oil when the tappets started getting too loud to bear)
. Was engaged previously and called off the wedding 3 months prior to D Day …best thing I ever did!!
. Suffered Panic Attacks between ages 17-32 (extreme Social Phobia) yep it’s true…..you wouldn’t know it hey???
. I used to have long blonde hair & wear purple eyeshadow…eeeks
. I’ve driven a Haul Pac (Big Ass Truck) on a mine site near Newman
. My favourite passtime is Gold Prospecting and I’ve actually found some …not enough to retire on tho hahaha
I knew you’d be a bit of a bogan! lol, I think all old Torrie’s suffered noisy tappets. Mine was subject to a little fred flintstone type vibe too. You could actually see the road racing by through the huge rust holes in the floor….oh the memories
Seems like that travel bug has always been with you, bet the working holiday was fun. I did UK and europe for 4 months when I was 18 (yep that’s where the Amsterdam trip came in).
You’re right definitely wouldn’t have pegged that about you on the panic attacks, glad to see they’re no longer an issue for ya
As for the hair and eyeshadow, I think we can all find a tragic moment from our past like that. Hope it wasn’t while you were driving the haul pac, might have been a bit distracting for the other lads
Well you lost me on the gold prospecting. I was taken prospecting by my parents a few times when I was younger, I think that was enough to put me off for life…wouldn’t be adverse to finding a big hunk of gold though, but not for the effort involved.
Thanks for spilling the beans and joining in, much appreciated.
I completely understand the shopping thing. I like balance and order too.
Doesn’t this happen to everyone who visits Amsterdam?
Nobody will be able to match you on the donkey thing or the Torana … Sounds like you are multifaceted.
I’ve never ridden an elephant, but was called one in grade school. I was that way chubby kid.
Crab is my favorite food. We call them Dungeness in Seattle. Love ‘em.
US NHL is fun, especially if you like fights.

Craig McBreen recently posted..Today is the day for you to stop giving a crap. Crush it and move on.
Hey Craig
Great to hear that its not just us neurotic women with shopping issues. Melanie suggested in the comments that we form a support group….you could wave the flag for the men. lol
Yep I think you might be right on the Amsterdam fact, well at least what I remember of it anyway.
Well I hope you put those name callers in their place…pffft elephant indeed! How Rude!!
So Dungeness is a type of crab (yep I googled it) Well you can go ahead and stake your claim to my quota too, happy to bequeath it in your direction.
Just love the pace of the Hockey, can’t imagine the way those guys get hammered, it does make me cringe…but I just can’t look away.
Drop by anytime Craig, thanks for the comments
