The next genesis of the Internet marketing push…Local Marketing.
Is this going to be the next over-saturation, leading to more noise and eventually a graveyard of websites to filter through?
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that there are gazillions (emphasis on lots) of businesses out there screaming for a web presence, waiting eagerly to be “helped” by all the gushing gurus with their business ideas, and marketing plans…..excuse me while I puke!
It’s no wonder that everyone has jumped on this bandwagon when its estimated that *40% of businesses don’t have a website, and wait for it….*84% don’t provide for e-commerce. Damn, if that’s not a buried treasure waiting to be mined….I don’t know what is.
My problem is this:
If a business has not already taken the steps to build themselves an online presence, its generally because they don’t understand whats involved, think its going to be all too hard and technical, & don’t have the time to figure it all out. Many think that just building the site and putting it “out there” is all there is to it…..and we all know there’s much more to it than that….don’t we?
I do wonder:
- How many businesses will be sucked into the slick sales pitch, provided the basics and left to fend for themselves?
- How many businesses will be caught up in the “oh that’s not included in the package” clause, leading them to spend much more than originally intended?
Given the general lack of understanding of this medium, it really does open a can of worms.
Does everyone have the right to take advantage of new market opportunities……Absolutely!
Does every business have the right to stake its claim on the interwebz………Most Definitely!
But I wonder…Is servicing the client the primary interest, or is it just the next cash grab, and will it change how this medium is perceived.
I would love to know what do you think, leave me your comments below.
